Things to Do in Mobile with Toddlers: A New Play Café Opening February 7
A calm, intentional indoor play space and one of the most anticipated new things to do in Mobile with toddlers. Winnie's Play Cafe is sure to wow your toddler... and you!
Why Winnie's Play Café Is One of the Best Things to Do in Mobile with Toddlers
Mobile is known for being a deeply family-centered community, and this play café was designed to complement that spirit.
Rather than replacing existing children’s activities, this space was created to add something new: a calm, thoughtfully designed environment where families can slow down, connect, and simply enjoy being together.
A Dream Born from Motherhood
Every great business has a story! This one begins with motherhood.
As an occupational therapist and longtime business owner in the health and wellness space, Melissa has always been passionate about helping others. But it wasn’t until she became a mom that a new vision began to take shape. With three little ones of her own, she felt a gap that many parents quietly experience: the need for a space that felt safe, welcoming, and intentionally designed for both children and parents.
What started as a simple thought — “Wouldn’t it be nice if…” — slowly grew into a dream she couldn’t ignore.
“Once the vision became clear, it felt like the right time to bring it to life.”
A Thoughtfully Designed Play Café for Toddlers and Young Children
Step inside, and you’ll immediately feel the difference.
Winnie's Play Café is bright, cozy, and intentionally designed to encourage imaginative play, movement, and exploration; without the overwhelming noise and chaos of a traditional indoor playground.
Designed primarily for babies through early elementary-aged children, with a strong focus on toddlers and preschoolers, this indoor play space fills a much needed gap for families searching for things to do in Mobile with toddlers. The space offers:
- Imaginative pretend-play areas kids gravitate toward immediately
- Open-ended play that supports development
- Clear visibility and flow for parents
- A peaceful atmosphere that invites families to stay awhile
Designed by a Mom, For Moms
Every decision was filtered through one simple question:
Would I feel good bringing my own kids here?
That meant prioritizing:
- Cleanliness and safety
- Comfort for parents
- Calm over chaos
- No overcrowding or overstimulation
The goal? A place where parents feel relieved, welcomed, and seen. A place where they can finally sit down, sip a coffee, and enjoy watching their kids play.
(Speaking of coffee; you can order a coffee from Brew Y'all Coffee and they will deliver it straight to you inside Winnie's Play Café!)
A Space Meant for Community
More than anything, Winnie's Play Café was created to be a gathering place. It is somewhere families will create memories, friendships form, and kids feel safe just being kids.
In five years, the hope is that this space becomes a true staple in the Mobile community.
“I want families to say, That place mattered to us.”
And for the kids?
She hopes they remember how fun it felt. How safe it felt. And how much they loved being there.
From Idea to Reality
Melissa shared that this dream has been quietly growing for years, but the moment it became real was unforgettable. Walking into the space for the first time as it came together, the play areas, the thoughtful details, the overall feeling; everything clicked.
It was no longer sketches and plans. It was real. And it was personal. Her own children will grow up playing here.
Creating a business rooted in family and community turned out to be more emotional than expected — in the best possible way.
The Realities of Building a Business
Opening a business while balancing motherhood isn’t easy! This journey was no exception.
The hardest part was trusting herself through the unknown, juggling multiple roles, and pushing past fear. But not trying felt heavier than the fear of starting.
Her advice for other moms dreaming of opening a business?
“Don’t wait until everything feels perfect. Start with your why, take it one step at a time, and trust that you’re capable, even on the hard days.”
Come Say Hi!

If we haven't met yet, Hi!
I’m Alex. A photographer and storyteller behind this blog. I’m also mom to a busy two-year-old, which means I’m constantly on the lookout for things to do in Mobile with toddlers that are safe, calm, and genuinely enjoyable for both kids and parents.
Featuring family-friendly businesses like this play café allows me to highlight spaces I would personally take my own child. I am always looking for places rooted in intention, community, and heart. My goal is to help local families discover meaningful experiences right here in Mobile, AL and surrounding areas.
